Revit Sections
[STANDARD ACT-ADDII-2: Students will prepare sections and details for residential drawings.]
SECTION DRAWINGS
- See Chapter 8 of the Introduction to Autodesk Revit Building book for instructions on how to place and adjust a section view.
- On the Floor Plan level, place a Longitudinal section throught the center of the house. If it does not go through the stairs then invert the view so the stairs are shown beyond the section. Rename this section to Longitudinal Section. Set the scale to 1/4" = 1'0". Set the detail level to medium.
- On the Floor Plan level, place a Cross section throught the house. Move the section so it goes through a window and shows a floor joist and foundation post. Rename this section to Cross Section. Set the scale to 1/4" = 1'0". Set the detail level to medium.
- In each section, turn off the visibility of all furniture. The only Levels you should have turned on are the T.O. Footing, Floors and Roof
- Place both section views on Sheet A8 Building Sections.

Analysis of Boys Varsity Basketball Teams
Today you are going to use ESRI's Make a Map Web 2.0 application to gather data about the schools our Boys Varsity Basketball team plays. We will be gathering data about the population of the census block that the school is located in.
- Open the Google Doc's spreadsheet "Basketball" that I have shared with you.
- Pick a school and enter your initials in the first column.
- Use Google and /or Google maps to locate the school.
- Enter the school's address in the appropriate columns.
- Open the Make a Map app mapapps.esri.com/create-map/index.html
- Enter the school's address in the search bar and click Locate
- Zoom in to get maximum detail.
- Select the appropriate Data Layer and click in the map near the school.
- Enter the data from the pop-up into the spreadsheet
- Change the Data Layer to go to the next set of information.
Once the spreadsheet is completed, save an Excel spreadsheet file to your student folder.
Open the spreadsheet prepare a line graph of one of the data columns. Format the chart with titles, colors, etc. and insert the chart as a new sheet. Do a screen capture of the chart and save the image.
Create additional charts to analyze the data. What are the similiarities between the schools? What are the differences? Are there other factors that we could analyze?
Create a blog posting about the exercise. Describe how you gathered and analyzed the data. Describe your findings. Include a link to one of the maps and a graphic of your data chart.
BONUS ACTIVITY:
Locate each of the schools on Google Earth or Google Maps and calculate the straight-line distance from Wheeler High School to each of the schools. Save and share the file with me. Then create a blog posting about the mapping project.
You might want to try www.batchgeocode.com/ to create the map.
