Group Design Project - Sketches
[STANDARD ACT-ADDI-1: Students will identify componects related to the design process.]
Your Group must select a housing style to complete your project for. See Section 5.0 Project Description. You may use any of the textbooks or magazines in the classroom for design ideas. You may use the Internet for ideas also; however, you may not duplicate any existing design found. YOUR DESIGN MUST SHOW ORIGINALITY. (100 points)
Before starting this assignment you must read about the history of Jekyll Island and the mission of the New Urban Guild. This will give you an overview of the development we are creating. Any additional research you do on coastal construction, hurricane-proof houses, Jekyll Island styles will benefit you in the long term. Remember you have to sell your project to the review board.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What are the components of a house that give it a "historical" style?
I recommend that you prepare a scale drawing on bond paper of the overall size of the house, then use tracing paper to create your designs. At the end of class on the third day, you must turn in a floor plan, front and side elevation of your proposed design. Design will be evaluated for historical style, design content and proper room sizing.
You must also turn in a Letter of Transmittal stating the name of your company, team member names and your chosen design description (style, size, details, etc.). |
